Monitor & Merrimac Sunrise – 12″ x 24″ oils on canvas
A “sunrise” at Monitor & Merrimac…sort of. If you look at the reference image I took (below), you can see that this is a thing that should not be. The sun doesn’t rise there! But the reference gave me the idea and I decided to go for it. Planning the light was a little harder than I thought it would be, especially where it lights up the foliage. The foreground wasn’t too interesting in the pic either, and being a quick snap I took on a bike ride, you can’t really make it out too well.
Painted in a single session in one afternoon, alla prima.
