Painting outdoors from life isn’t easy. It’s harder when you plan poorly! I made a bunch of mistakes this time.
1. Direct sunlight on my canvas. And me. Would have been shaded earlier in the day. 🤷
2. Had to stare straight up at my subject. 👀
3. Not enough water for the day. 💦
4. Difficult hike and terrain with a heavy pack. 🚶
The result was a painting that was keyed super dark indoors. As I knew it would be. I did bring a pochade box that would help with the upward viewing angle. And I chose a location I’ve painted a bunch recently to make it easier. But an hour in I knew I was doomed!
Katie shot the drone footage and a bunch of pics so I figured I might as well post this.
Thanks for watching.
