Delicate Arch – 8″ x 10″ oils on canvas
I call this the “standard issue” Delicate Arch 😂 not just because it feels like I’ve painted it a zillion times, but because this angle is really popular for photos. I still like painting it though, it never turns out exactly the same. It’s a subject that sells well and I certainly need the dough – I am an artist after all.
This painting marks the return of Burnt Sienna paint to my palette. I’ve been using a simple split primary palette for quite a while. Burnt Sienna is almost an essential color for scenes like this, it’s not quite the same mixing a similar shade. Technically though, it was still around, in a way; I often tone my canvas with acrylic Burnt Sienna mixed into my gesso. I’m gonna keep it around for a while, I forgot how much I like it.
