Moonflower – 12″ x 16″ oils on canvas
This was really difficult for me! Out of my comfort zone. I’ve tried to paint flowers before and mostly failed. I kind of like this one. Here’s some info for my friends who are not familiar with this flower, also known as the “Sacred Datura”:
Sacred datura was traditionally used across the world in medicine, ritual, and sometimes for sorcery due to its psychoactive properties and medicinal alkaloids like scopolamine and atropine. Indigenous American groups used it ritually as an entheogen for spiritual visions, while the Zuni people used it as a surgical anesthetic and pain reliever.
